'Quit
& Win - Don't Start & Win' is a European smoking prevention
and cessation project, which is conducted under the framework of
the European Network on Young People and Tobacco (ENYPAT).
What Is It All About? The Aims -
The aim of the project is to help young smokers to quit smoking
and non-smokers to stay non-smokers. We hope the project will be
influential in getting young people to talk about smoking as well
as putting it on the agenda of parents, adults and health professionals.
Young people (14-25)yrs (different age groups in each
european country) are asked to enter the competition by completing
the application card. The materials are disseminated through schools,
youth clubs, health centres and places where young people of this
age group spend their time in each country.
Rules
Each participating European
country will organise the competition in its area. Smokers are
able to participate in the competition if they are willing to quit
smoking for a specified period of time. Non-smokers are able to
participate in the competition by deciding not to start smoking
for the same period. After a 1-3 month period there is a draw to
pick a winner of those who succeeded either to quit smoking ( draw
A) or to stay non-smokers (draw B). All national prizewinners in
each country will also enter a final draw to produce an overall
European winner.
Materials
The materials, which are available for participants, are competition
cards, leaflets, postcards, internet pages, quit guides and magazines.
All material will give information on the rules of the competition,
encourage quitting/staying non-smokers and gives some information
on smoking and tips especially for quitting.
Evaluation
Information is obtained from participants who have entered the competition.
